The oboe body is made up of three parts. It has 20 air bores in different sizes and such bores are installed with gold plated or silver plated tone keys to adjust the pitch. The tone keys are arranged with a lever structure. When this musical instrument is played with the keys being pressed, the lever structure will automatically open or close relevant air bores in line with the pitch being played.
Key System
This oboe can be supplied with semi-automatic or automatic key system. The former is hard to control. When playing the A5 to C6, the player should press the left 2nd octave key. The lever construction is comparatively simple and the product with such a key system is much cheaper. The automatic key system simplifies the operation methods of the semi-automatic one. The lever structure is relatively precise and the product with such a key system is expensive.

The oboe is a kind of woodwind instrument with ruralism or pastoral style. Its tone quality is sweet and pure as well as has rhinolalia to a small extent. The sound is full of expressive force. With more purely cantabile melodic things in its own musipart, this musical instrument will be played with fewer techniques. Owing to the clear and sonorous sound, it always plays an outstanding role in the musical band. Additionally, the straightforward and great tone quality makes this product unparalleled to other musical instruments. Our hoboy can be played with high precision and has rich playing methods. It is of great importance in the symphony orchestra.

The oboe is the most complicated one among the woodwind instruments. Its keys are small and arranged in a concentrated way. The keys are many and are correlated with each other. Thus, this musical instrument should be assembled or disassembled carefully. It is made up of three parts, the upper and lower parts as well as the bell.

Before using the oboe, the player should coat the joint cork with some Vaseline lubricating oil to prevent the keys from deformation during assembly and disassembly caused by the excessive friction force of the cork. When assembling or disassembling this hautbois, the operator should hold the upper part with the left hand and the lower part with the right hand. Meanwhile, the left hand should press up the two key rods linking the lower part. Then, insert the upper part inwards slowly and rotate it at the same time until the upper part reaches the bottom. The upper and lower connecting rods are interlinked with each other.

When holding the musical instrument, the two hands should use the force uniformly and the force should be distributed to all the fingers. The force should be at the moderate level so as to protect the product from possible damage.

The body of the oboe is usually made of rosewood or ebony. With such materials, this hoboy has better tone quality than the one manufactured from rubber. On the other hand, it is easy to crack. Taking such problems into consideration, the operator should first maintain the newly bought musical instrument. That is, oil the product internally and externally with the white oil or sewing machine oil. At first, coat the oil on a piece of cloth or a small brush and then wipe the hautbois. The oil should be prevented from contacting with the pad. The product is supposed to be oiled once 3 to 7 days, consecutively five times approximately.

When played for the first time, this oboe should not be operated for a long time. Its wood activity is relatively great and the tensile force between various wood parts is in the unbalanced and instable state. Under such a circumstance, if influenced by outer factors excessively, such as the too long playing time, wind blowing, solarization, etc., the product may crack. Thus, the playing time of a new musical instrument should be gradually prolonged, 5 minutes to 10 minutes step by step. In this case, the wood can have an adaptive process and the cracking problem can be avoided or reduced.

After playing the oboe, the player should clean up the water inside the body with the carry-on brush or cleaning rod. The water in the pad can be removed by clipping the absorbent paper between the tone hole and key. Then, use a piece of clean cloth to wipe off the dirt on the tone hole and the key. The screws should be checked frequently to see whether they are loose or not. If loose, they should be screwed tightly so that they will not be lost.

The keys should be oiled once a month thoroughly. Each movable part of the key should be given a drop of white oil or sewing machine oil, with the trumpet piston oil being inapplicable. Then, press the keys for several times to make them in full contact with the oil. Use the soft cloth to clean up the surface of the keys. The space between key rods as well as the place hard to reach can be wiped up with the use of small brush or old brush. When cleaning the oboe, the user should not touch off the cork pad or the small sticky pad. In the case that this product is exposed to certain problems, the user should ask professionals for help, not repairing it at will.
