Maintenance:
1. Piston
The water on the surface of piston should be wriped out and then the piston of euphonium is coated with a little valve oil. The piston which is maintenced frequently is capable of keeping good glossiness. If the piston only coated with the oil while the water is not removed competely, the piston will become rusty. When dismentling the piston from the euphonium, the operator should not lose the spring in the piston cylinder.

After the piston is wiped, the piston cylinder should also be cleaned up. If there is no clearning rod, the operator can use the relatively long chopsticks with a square end. Wrap the gauze around the chopsticks to make a gauze rod. Using such a tool will bring out thorough cleaning effets.

The piston of our euphonium should be clean carefully. The place where the piston is put should be stable and clean. The piston should be proteckted from fallwing and collision with other objects. With a hollow construction, it will be subject to a variety of breakdowns once collided with other things. The repairing work  is very complicated and the repairing cost is very high.

2. Pitch Pipe:
The commonly used euphonium has 4 pitch pipes, each installed on the piston cylinder. The pitch pipe can be cleaned in three aspects, including inner wall of the outer wipe, outer wall of the inner tube as well as the inner wall of the inner tube. When all this three parts cleaned up, the surface of the inner tuba should be coated with some lubricating oil to prevent the pipe wall from rust. Thus, the pitch pipe can be kept lubricated. 

3. Maintenance Details
a.Removing Water via the Pitch Pipe
Press down the piston and pull out the pitch Pipe to get rid of the water. The water within the euphonium body can be drained out from the drainage hole. Through made of brass or silver, the pitch pipe is greatly corrosion resistant. However, when containing water for a long time, it will also suffer from corrosion. In order to prevent such a problem, the piston should be given some valve oil and pressed several times for smooth operation. 

b. Applycation of valve oil 
Take off the screw cap above the piston cylinder and pull half of the piston slowly and vertically. The piston is provided with one or two drups of valve oil and pressed several times to make the oil fully coated on the piston. If not oiled regularly, the piston may work inflexibly. Therefore it should be maintained carefully.

C. Smudge Cleaning
The surface of the euphonium should be softly wiped with cleaning cloth, once per week. When the pitch pipe is being pulled out, the piston should be pressed down. The gauze is wound around the cleaning rod,  With the metal part not being exposed. Smudge on the middle tuba and inner side of the outer pipe should be cleaned away.
The tuning slide with the ring, the first and the second one should be supplied with the tuning slide oil. The main and the second as well as the one without the ring are coated with a littke tuning slide oil. Afterwords, these tuning slide are pulled several times to make the oil evently coated.

d. cleaning of mouthpiece and Inner Part of the Euphonium body

The brass soap is poured into the warm with the temperature being from 30℃-40℃. The proportion of the brass soap to the water is 1:15. The cleaner brush is employed to dip the brass soap to clean the mouthpiece. Such brass soap can also be used to the inner part the of the body. The flexible cleaner is adopted. Then the inner part of the body is rinsed with water.

e. Water drainage Hole Cleaning
The water drainage hole should be cleaned with the tone hole cleaning rod once a month.

f. Piston Cylinder Cleaning 
The gauze is wrapped around the cleaning rod with the metal part unexposed to remove the smudge on the inner side of the piston cylinder. The gauze is used to clean the smudge on the piston. Then, the piston is plugged into the pistom cylinder and provided with some tuning slide oil for lubrication.

g. Cleaning of Other Parts
The Cleaning gauze is made into the strip and then used to clean subtle parts.
